After reading through the syllabus and looking through some of the other students blogs, I already can tell that I will need to be able to not only capture meaningful photos, but also be able to put my thoughts and experiences into a post that people can relate to. Looking forward, I already know that I would like to report and write about issues within the agricultural industry. I grew up on a ranch in Nebraska and I was moving cows and riding horses long before I could even walk. I feel like the Ag industry is part of my family, so seeing that it is under attack so often in the main stream media makes me really sad. I want nothing more than to educate the public that the Ag industry as a whole is not trying to deceive or make the public sick, but wants to produce the highest quality product possible. Not to mention, we want to treat the animals we raise with the most respect possible even when we harvest them. Everyday there are new struggles that we all deal with and we are constantly under scrutiny…imagine living like that day in and day out when all you are trying to do is feed the world. Below is a video with my favorite news anchor Paul Harvey reading his poem “Why God Made a Farmer”. Take a look, and I promise you’re crying I’m not.
“Agriculture is the most healthful, most useful, and most noble employment of man”.
